Art & Design
Our art curriculum focuses on three main elements: developing skills, securing knowledge, and providing exposure to the work of great artists. Each child has their own sketchbook, which acts as a personal diary showing the progression of their artistic skills. It is a place where children learn that some of their best artwork begins with the simple confidence to make a mark.
We focus on three core areas—drawing, painting and sculpture—alongside a range of other art, craft and design techniques. At Church Crookham Junior School, art is woven into everyday teaching. Our curriculum nurtures creativity, provides challenge, and inspires children to develop their own unique artistic style. We encourage pupils to be bold, confident and adventurous in their artwork.
Children create work with real purpose, knowing they will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and progress during our summer Celebration of Work. We also encourage pupils to become confident ‘art detectives’, developing their appreciation and understanding of art.
Above all, we support every child to become a confident artist and to “make a mark and see where it takes them…” — Peter Reynolds, The Dot.
