History
At Church Crookham Junior School, our intent is to inspire curiosity and foster a deep respect for the past. Through our values-led curriculum, we empower children to explore historical events, people, and societies with an open mind and a reflective attitude. We aim to cultivate a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world, recognising how the complexities of people’s lives have shaped the present day.
Rooted in our school values, pupils are encouraged to approach history with respect for diverse perspectives, resilience in enquiry, and a sense of responsibility in interpreting evidence. As they progress through school, children develop key historical skills and concepts, including chronology, change and continuity, cause and consequence, significance, and interpretation. They learn to ask perceptive questions, make connections, and think critically about the past.
We place a strong emphasis on the process of historical enquiry—understanding how evidence is used to make claims and how contrasting interpretations are formed. Pupils are supported to reflect thoughtfully, weigh evidence, and develop their own informed judgements, nurturing their identity as young historians.
Throughout their time at CCJS, children are given opportunities to build both knowledge and skills, fostering a lifelong love of history and a desire to find out more. By engaging with the past, they develop a stronger sense of self and community, guided by our shared values and a commitment to learning.
